Pink Simpson donut - Archersfood (2024)

Im literally one of the biggest Simpson fan, i would watch the same episodes every day on repeat back when i was a child, because free tv issues. I always wanted to try the iconic pink donut, and even though i know this one wont taste the same as the one on television, it’s really good.

These donuts are super pillowy soft, they feel like eating a cloud, no cap. We covered them with white chocolate that surprise surprise, has pink coloring on it and sprinkles on top. Impossible to resist and im sure Homer would devour a million of them.

Sponge

We are starting first with our sponge, using lukewarm water and active dry yeast. We need to allow this to set and start to bubble for about 10 minutes, if you see your sponge mix not bubbling its time to change your yeast and start this step over, if we don’t have an active yeast the dough is not gonna proof and it will be hard rock impossible to eat.

Advertisem*nts

Maybe your yeast is alive but you used way too hot water and you un a lived it if you know what i mean. Make sure the water is not too hot it should be like room temperature warm. If you touch it and it feel hot just leave it for a bit till it cools down.

Oil for frying

i will always repeat this but for me sunflower seeds oil is the best for baking sweets, frying doughnut style food and everything related to cakes, except when making pastries that require another type of oil.

Advertisem*nts

Extra virgin olive oil for this recipe, we all know this oil is so much healthier than any others, but when reaching high temperatures it still has kind of the same effect as seeds oils, because we are frying and the oil needs to be hot- trying to explain this without making it about science.

This oil has so much flavor, which is good when you are cooking but not that good for sweets. I never cook with seeds oil because i love the taste of evoo, so good. So just save it to make your savory dishes.

Frying

I never check the temperature when frying, now i do have batteries for my thermometer because obviously my dad knew which ones to buy, but i don’t feel like they’re that necessary. i can describe it to you, its not that hard. The oil should be hot. But not too hot. It should also not be cold because then it would be too oily.

Advertisem*nts

And you may be asking..okay then how do you know if it’s the right temperature to fry?EASY, you grab a tiny piece of dough, maybe an excess from the edge, we can use that and you pour it in the oil when you think it would be hot enough. -you see some bubbles, normal bubble or way too many bubbles? The right answer for this should be i see normal bubbles!

We don’t want a lot because then it would be too hot but if we don’t have a lot of them its gonna be too cold. You can use a wooden toothpick for that too, it works fine.

Shape

To make this donut shape with a hole inside, first of all you want to grab something round that cuts, for example a cookie cutter. Even if you don’t have a cookie cutter, because i don’t expect everyone to have one you could use a glass. Like a drinking one, where you pour your water. That should work more than fine.

Advertisem*nts

For the hole in the middle you could find something smaller or a pipping tip the base part. They even sell donut cutters all over the world, more specifically on amazon. I’m not a big fan of those tho.

Now we say we are frying the donuts, well, at this point you want fry them but using a spatula or something round, you will see it in the picture above of this one. With this you want to slightly press it to the round sides of your cooking pot. If it doesn’t make sense you can go watch it in our TikTok. This will make it more roundly pretty.

Glaze

Advertisem*nts

We are using white chocolate with food coloring for this one, however if you can get yourself some pink one, go use that, it would be so much better.

If you don’t like chocolate you could also just mix icing sugar or powdered sugar with lemon juice and food coloring but it wouldn’t stay the same and it would look patchy, kinda. We bought the sprinkles but you can make them if you want, i don’t think its worth it because they’re literally cheap and this would be really time consuming. You just wanna end up having a super pink Simpson donut

In order to make these pink Simpson donut we are starting with making our sponge, mixing lukewarm water, granulated sugar (only 1 tablespoon) and active dry yeast. Make sure to cover and place in a warm place. About 10 minutes later you should be seeing foam on top or like bubbles and that means its ready to use.

Make sure to leave your butter out of the fridge while you wait for the foam to happen, in a result you will have soft butter and it will be so much easier to work with.

2)Second step, dough ingredients

At this point you want to use a mixing bowl, add the rest of the dough ingredients, like flour, sugar, soft butter, one egg and the yeast mixture we did before. We also added on this recipe sorbitol just because we were doing some experiments, it will make the donut extra soft but if you don’t have it it’s literally fine and you don’t need to use it, just mentioning it because you obviously see it here.

3)Third step, kneading and first proof

Advertisem*nts

You should be kneading this amazing super soft and sticky dough for about 15-18 minutes, make sure you use a stand mixer because if you don’t have one…

Using a stand mixer:

pour all your dough in the stand mixer bowl if you weren’t using it already. Use the dough hook attachment on medium low speed for about 15-18 minutes or until you see the dough getting elastic.

With your hands:

If you don’t have a stand mixer you can do this recipe anyways. You wanna knead on a clean slightly floured surface for about 20-23 minutes.

Pink Simpson donut - Archersfood (19)

You will know if the dough is ready because it should look elastic, if you feel like it needs more time, knead for a bit more. Now make sure you are using a clean and slightly oiled bowl, like we did and you can see on the picture…and cover with a kitchen towel, damp paper or plastic wrap. Let it proof in a warm place for about 1h and 30 minutes and you should know if its ready because it would be 2x times grown in size.

4)Forth step, shaping

Extend the dough using arolling panat this point you can add about a tablespoon of oil on your working surface. I personally like to extend the dough directly on theparchment paperso I don’t have to move it around and it doesn’t stick anywhere. (About 1.5 cm/ 1/2 inch thick).

6)Sixth step, frying

Make sure to use a big cooking pan becase they will expand like crazy. Fill it with as much sunflower seeds oil as you can, you are not gonna use all of it but if it doesn’t have a lot it will burn and it will absorb much more oil. The oil should not be too hot or too cold, it should be making bubbles but not a lot like crazy bubbling, they should be looking golden brown. To make them prettier using a round utensil, press it slightly on the sides of the pan.

After you fry them make sure to drench the excess of oil using a bunch of paper towels. This will absorb all of the extra, it will not make them healthier but you will not be eating this excess.
